Inchiquin House

Description

Welcome to Inchiquin House, a truly unique 5 bedroom elegant period home located in the beautiful town land of Corofin County Clare. This Georgian home offers luxury style with country charm and is over 200 years old and is romantically tucked away amid the stunning landscape that is the West Coast of Ireland. Inchiquin House is not far from the magnificent Atlantic Ocean and offers guests the opportunity to explore its natural surroundings including the famous Burren landscape and the local historic sites.

This charming house stands in its own private and peaceful wooded estate of over one hundred acres, reached by its own half-mile long avenue. This well-appointed self-catering home comfortably accommodates 10 guests in 5 luxury bedrooms, and is an ideal vacation setting for a family. The owners provide for all ages, having a special outside playhouse for children and a wheelchair-accessible bathroom and guestroom within.

The Estate
The luxury estate borders the country road from Corofin to Kilnaboy, and the house is reached by a kilometer-long avenue which provides stunning views over Lake Inchiquin. As you approach the house you pass through a double-gate under two old copper beech trees that change colour with the seasons. The front ground-floor drawing room and dining room look out on to lawn and mature trees. The house is on a working farm, and cattle occasionally graze in the fields adjoining the avenue, being sometimes herded into the extensive woodland at the back. Surrounding the house there is ‘The Granary’, a storage building and a series of farm outbuildings. There is also a small storage building in the garden that has been converted into a children’s playhouse. In the woodland behind the House, the Burren’s karst limestone reveals itself, formed by millennia of erosion. A large stone ring-fort over 1000 years old can also be visited on foot, through the moss-covered forest landscape.

Activities
While the breath-taking House and Estate is a charming tranquil hideaway, there is simply so much to do and see in the surrounding areas. By Day; Start simply with the stunning landscape of the Burren National Park, visit the monumental Cliffs of Moher or the historical Aran Islands. Go underground into the Ailwee or Doolin Caves. For those who are actively minded, surf and golf in Lahinch & Doonbeg. Go horse riding with friends. Guests at Inchiquin have the perfect opportunity to get active and walk, bike or hike in the Burren National Park and along the breathtaking Atlantic coast walks and beaches. Get the unique opportunity to boat and fish in our own local Lake Inchiquin. For those interested in history; explore the nearby archaeological megalithic tombs, medieval abbeys and castles and cultural parks such as Bunratty Folk Park.

By Night; Drop into your local Pub, Boffey’s in Corofin, and sit in front of the open turf fire with friends and family, drinking your pint of Guinness whilst listening to the jigs and reels of the traditional Irish musicians.

You enter this period house through a bright porch added in the early twentieth century and leads into the main hallway with stairs leading upstairs. To the right of the hallway is a twin-windowed drawing room with relaxing period armchairs and plush sofas, dominated in the background by a Steinweg pianola and a writing table. Two paintings of The Four Seasons adorn the walls. The black marble fireplace, decorated with period blue tiles, burns on coal, wood and pleasantly-scented local turf. The drawing room is the ideal place to sit and read a book by the open fire, or to relax with family and friends after a long day of activities.

The well-proportioned red-painted dining room with polished marble fireplace welcomes you with a warm glow of old-world opulence. The large mahogany table seats 10 and is serviced by two sideboards. At the rear of the house is the refurbished kitchen and dining area providing a lovely view towards the old garden at the back. The Kitchen has oak units and stunning granite worktops. The catering facilities are cooking-school grade. The dining table seats 10 comfortably, and has an adjacent sideboard.
